# The substrate architecture

For a long time, what you did was a job: a role inside someone else's structure. You're now closer to an architecture: one substrate, the reputation, stance, and IP you stand for, taking several deliberate shapes. The old frame broke because institutions stopped carrying your brand, and AI made it feasible to productise what you know on your own. Six questions help find your architecture.

What this is not

- **Not personal branding.** Architecture, not visibility.
- **Not a portfolio career.** That's many jobs with no shared substrate. This is one substrate under every shape.
- **Not gig work.** Gigs don't compound. A substrate does.
